Brilliant.org Review 2022 | A Better Way To Learn Math, Science & Coding

In my review of 2022 Brilliant, I discuss how this highly visual online platform and app can help you or your students learn new problem-solving skills in math, science, and coding. Brilliant.org is an excellent supplement to classroom learning, especially since much of the content is available for free.

They'll progress from fundamentals for beginners to challenging problems for advanced learners by using daily puzzles and games to explain complicated concepts with simple animations.

The stated goal of Brilliant.org's learning platform is to help students see math and science in a new light. Lectures are being replaced by hands-on problem-solving activities and games, allowing us to learn through play. Brilliant.org's mission is to assist its community in developing STEM intuition and learning through mastery rather than simple memorization.

Personally, our family enjoys the daily puzzles. Our 12-year-old enjoys the instant feedback on her ranking in comparison to others who attempted to solve today's challenge.

Brilliant Review 2021 | What Is Brilliant.org?

Brilliant is a platform for online learning. Users can learn about a variety of STEM-related subjects through interactive courses that emphasize concept mastery and comprehension. Brilliant is based on the idea that everyone is a learner and that everyone can learn about science, math, and technology by encouraging curiosity. It is particularly well-known for making complex concepts fun, entertaining, and approachable to the average learner.

Brilliant has become increasingly popular in recent years. By 2020, there will be over 9 million registered Brilliant users on the site, with its companion mobile app reaching 2 million monthly users.

With so much buzz surrounding the product, many people wonder if it's worthwhile to dive in and begin learning with Brilliant.

What Can You Learn On Brilliant.org?

The brilliant courses available are all STEM-related – no literature, history, or art here. They do, however, provide a diverse range of STEM learning opportunities. The website provides seven distinct "learning paths" that educate users in Math, Science, Computer Science, Logic, Statistics & Finance, Software Development, Data Science, and Calculus & Advanced Maths.

Each learning path is made up of several different courses that users can complete at their own pace. Popular courses include Quantum Computing, Special Relativity, Python Programming, Computational Biology, and Artificial Neural Networks.

The course material is surprisingly advanced in scope. In math, for example, courses range from fundamentals of high school math to the most advanced levels of linear algebra and differential equations. Here are a few more in each of their areas of focus to give you a sense of their course library.

Brilliant Math Sample Courses
  • Pre-Algebra

What Skill Levels Or Grade Levels Are On Brilliant.org?

Depending on the student, the most basic levels of learning are roughly equivalent to a middle school level of math skills, and gradually progress through upper collegiate levels. While the platform is not suitable for elementary school-aged children or younger, teens and adults will find the appropriate level of high-quality STEM challenge.

Brilliant's technique of visual learning and whole-concept instruction may make him an excellent resource for those who have struggled with scientific and mathematical learning for the majority of their lives.

How Can Brilliant.org Help Me?

Brilliant is an invaluable resource for students who require extra assistance in understanding their classwork. Many teens and college students report finding a lot of assistance on Brilliant in understanding concepts that they struggled to grasp with their college study alone, or who used Brilliant to brush up on subjects before returning to school in the fall. Brilliant, on the other hand, isn't just for students.

Perhaps you, like us, are the parents of a middle schooler attempting to assist with difficult problems, but your explanations are only adding to your frustration? The animations and engaging problems will provide you with new ways to explain your thinking or will provide you with a break while your student receives a direct tutorial on new concepts from Brilliant.

Perhaps you are an adult who teaches mathematical or scientific concepts on a daily basis. Brilliant will most likely prove to be an invaluable resource for you. Teachers, professors, professional engineers, and computer scientists will find inspiration in Brilliant.org's online courses. Their daily puzzles also tend to keep up with current events.

Brilliant will also appeal to an adult learner who is simply curious about mathematical, scientific, or programming concepts that they are unfamiliar with. Because no scientific or educational background is required to participate, you'll have a lot of fun learning and engaging with new information. Everyone is invited.

This range of student requirements highlights an important aspect of Brilliant: its self-paced nature. It allows those who are brushing up on old math skills or scientific concepts to fly through the courses quickly, while first-time learners can take their time carefully mastering each skill before moving on to the next lesson.

How Much Does Brilliant.org Cost?

Brilliant provides a number of free features. While the full courses and mobile app are only available to Brilliant Premium subscribers, much of the site, including partial courses, daily challenges, portions of their wiki, and practice questions, is available to free users.

Brilliant premium subscriptions cost $24.99 per month, which is on the higher end of the price range for a product of this type. There is, however, a free 7-day trial, so you can take it for a spin and see how you like it. For those looking to save money, you can also sign up for the annual subscription, which is one payment of $149 per year and locks in a savings of more than 50%. Even better, if you know a subscriber, they can give you a yearly subscription for $120 for the first year!

There are also bulk order options. If you want to sign up your entire family or your entire staff, you can save even more money by getting an annual group subscription for three or more people, which starts at $299.88 per year. If you can't imagine going through middle and high school without Brilliant.org, they even offer a lifetime subscription for one flat fee!

Does Brilliant Have A Free Trail?

Yes, while they don't make a big deal about it, Brilliant does provide a free 7-day trial for new students. If you have any questions about the specific policy, you can find answers on their helpful FAQ page.

Is Brilliant Fun?

Brilliant is one of the best online learning tools for making the learning process engaging and interesting by gamifying many concepts and tasks. Brilliant feels more like playing puzzle games and active learning than sitting through boring lectures. Learners on Brilliant can use a variety of educational tools, such as quizzes, readings, and games, to stay engaged at all times.

Brilliant even has a mobile app (available for IOS in the App Store and for Android in Google Play) with games and activities, making it simple to take the learning on the road and keep practicing your new skills or learning new ones while you're on the go.

What Are People Saying?

Brilliant's reviews are mostly positive, with users praising the site's fun puzzles, engaging learning experiences, and overall enjoyment. The primary criticisms, however, are directed at the site's in-depth instruction, which users report is sometimes lacking. Assume you want to study theoretical math and science at the highest level. In that case, you may find that some of the instruction is lacking and that you will need to use supplemental materials to fully grasp the concepts.

Review of Brilliant vs Skillshare?

Skillshare and Brilliant have a lot in common because they are both online learning platforms that offer unique courses to users. However, there is a significant difference between the two.

In terms of content, Skillshare is much more focused on the humanities and the arts, with few STEM courses. The computer skills courses they offer are focused on design and development rather than coding and programming, and the math and science courses are limited. Skillshare also has a lower interactive component. The majority of their learning is done through a series of videos that users watch rather than through interactive games and activities for education and practice.

When it comes to price, there is little to no difference between Skillshare and Brilliant. Brilliant costs $24.99 per month, whereas Skillshare starts at $15. However, keep in mind that you can use the gift-giving trick to reduce your Brilliant monthly fee to $10, which is significantly less than that of Skillshare.

Summary Brilliant Review: Is Brilliant.org Worth It?

This Brilliant.org review should have been beneficial to you. Assume you are a new student with a STEM focus, a rusty parent attempting to help their teen with homework, or simply someone interested in honing your mathematical or scientific skills. In that case, Brilliant is worth a look. And, at a lower cost than Netflix, its entertaining games and thought-provoking puzzles will help you stay sharp and keep up with your work, study, or interests.
